Mt. Vernon Halloween is a resident-driven tradition — always has been, always will be. No corporate sponsors. No outside organizations. No one telling us how to celebrate.
We decorate our own homes, hand out our own candy, and welcome our neighbors and visitors with open arms. This is Halloween the way it was meant to be — personal, creative, and resident-made.
Help us to keep our Mt. Vernon Trick or Treating small town and traditional! Say NO to corporate sponsors brought in by outside groups Say NO to unsafe Bulk Candy Collection that would be impossible to track Say NO to outside groups misrepresenting themselves as "organizers" of a Mt. Vernon trick or treat Community event. Say NO to groups soliciting monetary donations on behalf of Mt. Vernon Residents without our consent. If you love what we do here, the best thing you can do is show up, enjoy it, and spread the word by using our hashtag and sharing our socials. That's all we ask.
When candy is collected in bulk by an outside group and redistributed to trick-or-treaters, there is no way to verify its source, handling, or safety. Residents of Mt. Vernon traditionally hand out candy directly from their own home - they know exactly what they're giving and to whom. Bulk collection removes that accountability entirely, making it impossible to trace any issue back to its origin. It also bypasses the personal connection that makes our tradition special. Please only accept candy directly from our residents' hands, and never from a centralized collection point run by an outside group. Currently there is an outside group organizing bulk candy collection and sponsored candy collection in an effort to change our Mt. Vernon Tradition from small town - to big commercial event. The majority of residents on both N. and S. Mt. Vernon do not condone the soliciting of monetary donations or the bulk candy collection efforts of this outside group.
